Katie and Jason: E-Session at Joshua Tree

Katie and Jason are getting married next year and we're looking forward to photographing their wedding in January. We met them at a wedding we shot in 2006, where Jason was the best man and Katie was a bridesmaid.

We’d been wanting to shoot an engagement session at Joshua Tree National Park for some time. Katie and Jason were up for the one hour trek, so off we went! We wrestled with a bit of wind, but we managed to get some fun shots in a unique setting.

Flush-mount vs. coffee-table albums

Red Lantern Photography currently offers the choice of a flush-mount album or coffee-table album for our couples. To better illustrate the differences between the two styles of album, Nader took some photos of each book style.

Flush-mount album details

The flush-mount album has thicker, rigid pages and a lay-flat construct. The album images are printed onto photo paper, which are then mounted onto board used to create the album pages. The pages are sprayed and textured for protection. In the case of upgraded metallic album prints, the images are sprayed only.

Cover treatments include a variety of leathers and premium fabrics that resemble a suede-like material. Imprinting is available in silver, gold, black or colorless branding (like you see here on the spine) in several different type styles. One cover photo is included with our flush-mount album, but additional cover photos are available as an upgrade.

Coffee-table album front and back details

The coffee-table album has pages much like any coffee-table book you'd find at the local bookstore. The images are printed onto archival-quality paper that is flexible. The pages do not lay completely flat, but care is taken during the design process so that crucial portions of an image are not obscured in the center gutter.

The coffee-table album comes with a custom-designed cover with matching dust jacket and a black or red slipcase with silver imprinting. Also available is an upgraded leather cover treatment with a custom-designed presentation box, not shown here. For those who prefer animal-friendly options, there is a faux leather cover material available as well.

Every album is custom-designed for each Red Lantern couple. Templates are avoided because we believe that every wedding story is unique and should be treated as such. When you choose Red Lantern to photograph your wedding, we shoot with the final product in mind -- an album that captures the emotion and spirit of your day. Your custom-designed album will allow you to relive your most special day, year after year and generation after generation.

El Paseo Fashion Week: A Splendid Affaire

We had the opportunity to participate in Fashion Group Foundation's "A Splendid Affaire" event last week, which helped raise money for scholarships for young people interested in fashion. This event was one part of the week-long festivities at El Paseo Fashion Week.

It was our first time doing a "show" and we really wanted to make our space inviting and intimate. To create that warm ambience, we used two leather occasional chairs for seating with gold pillows. To unify the space, we used a 5'x8' rug with simple, multi-colored circles.

We brought samples of our gallery-wrapped canvas prints, coffee-table and flush-mount albums and a few framed prints, as well. To brighten up our six-foot table, we used a crinkly copper table linen from Ultimate Events; two gold runners on the backdrop also helped to accent the dark brown palette.

Joy Fields and Chip Tuvman of J. Russell Salon were two booths away with their colleagues, giving mini-makeovers. In the photo below you'll see Joy (on the left) and Chip working on Susan Stein, Fashion Editor of Palm Springs Life Magazine. As mentioned in a previous posting, we've worked with Joy and Chip at several weddings and their work has always been outstanding. Coincidentally, the kissing bride in the large canvas print on the left and the bridesmaids in the large canvas print on the right were all styled and made-up by Joy and Chip!
